David Lidington (2017)

Sir David Roy Lidington (born June 30, 1956 in London ) is a British politician ( Conservative Party ) and was a Member of Parliament for the constituency of Aylesbury from 1992 to 2019 . From January 2018 until his resignation on July 24, 2019, he was Prime Minister Theresa May's head of cabinet . Lidington was Lord Chancellor and Minister of Justice in the May II Cabinet until 2016 . He was previously Secretary of State in the Foreign Office , where he served as Minister for Europe in the Cameron I and Cameron II cabinets . He then served as Lord President of the Council and Leader of the House of Commons from 2016 to 2017 .

Life

Lidington studied history at the University of Cambridge . He started his career with the British energy company BP and the international mining company Rio Tinto Group , before working for three years as a consultant for the government member Douglas Hurd in 1987 . In 1987 he ran unsuccessfully for the constituency of Vauxhall . In the British general election in 1992 , he succeeded for the first time in parliament for the constituency of Aylesbury . Since then he has represented this constituency in the House of Commons . After the British general election in 2010 , Lidington became Minister for Europe in the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office . After Theresa May's resignation in 2019, he was knighted as Knight Commander of the Order of the Bath . He did not run for the new elections for the House of Commons in 2019 and left parliament.

Lidington is married with four children.
