David Mundell

David Mundell PC (born May 27, 1962 in Dumfries ) is a Scottish politician and member of the Conservative Party . He was Minister for Scotland from May 11, 2015 to July 24, 2019 .

Life

Mundell attended the Lockerbie Academy and then studied law at the University of Edinburgh . After earning a business degree from Strathclyde University , he first worked as a solicitor and then worked in the legal department of BT Group . In January 2016, he publicly professed his homosexuality.

Scottish Parliament

During his student days, Mundell served on the Annandale and Eskdale County Council for two years and later on the Dumfries and Galloway Regional Council . In the first Scottish parliamentary elections in 1999, Mundell ran in the constituency of Dumfries , but could not prevail against the Labor candidate Elaine Murray . However, since Mundell was also on the regional electoral list of the Conservatives for the electoral region South of Scotland , he received one of the four list mandates of the Conservatives in this electoral region and moved into the newly created Scottish Parliament as a result of the election result . In the parliamentary elections in 2003 he was able to increase his share of the vote, but still missed the direct mandate. However, he defended his list mandate for South of Scotland. After the British general election in 2005 , he gave up his mandate and resigned from parliament. The next-placed Derek Brownlee moved up for Mundell .

British House of Commons

In the British general election in 2005, Mundell applied for the direct mandate of the newly created constituency of Dumfriesshire, Clydesdale and Tweeddale and won the direct mandate. In the shadow cabinet of David Cameron , Mundell was appointed Scotland Minister from 2007. After defending his mandate in the 2010 general election, Mundell was named Undersecretary of State for Scotland. In the 2015 elections , he was again able to win the majority of votes in his constituency. Mundell is the only Conservative Party MP for a Scottish constituency. In the newly formed cabinet under David Cameron, he was appointed Minister of Scotland . In the early general election in 2017 , Mundell maintained his mandate.
