He served as British Chancellor of the Exchequer between July 24, 2019 and February 13, 2020 . Javid was the first British citizen of Asian descent and the first with a Muslim background to hold one of Britain's four leading offices ( Great Offices of State : Prime Minister, Chancellor of the Exchequer, Foreign Secretary and Home Secretary). Since Matt Hancock stepped downon June 26, 2021 he is Minister of Health in the Boris Johnson cabinet .

Life

Javid is one of five sons of a Pakistani immigrant family. His father was a bus driver. His mother did not go to school and did not speak English. He studied economics and political science at the University of Exeter and was a member of the Conservative Party at that time. He quickly rose to become a Managing Director of Deutsche Bank in the banking business . As an investment banker at Deutsche Bank, with an annual salary of three million pounds, he was jointly responsible for the high-risk derivatives that led to the global financial crash of 2007/2008 .

Since the election on May 6, 2010 , he has been a member of the British House of Commons for the constituency of Bromsgrove in Worcestershire . He was Minister of Culture from 2014 to 2015 and, as Chairman of the Trade Commission, from 2015 to 2016 Minister for Municipal Affairs and Housing. After Amber Rudd resigned over the Windrush scandal , Theresa May appointed him Minister of the Interior in her second cabinet in April 2018 .

In 2019, Javid revoked the British citizenship of the 19-year-old pregnant former follower of the terrorist militia "Islamic State" Shamima Begum in order to prevent Begum's request to return to the United Kingdom. A few weeks later, the baby died in a Syrian prison camp.

On 13 June 2019 he signed the extradition request of the United States to Julian Assange to surrender to it. A UK court has yet to agree. Javid said it was "right that he be behind bars"; he himself “always wants justice”.

Theresa May resigned as Conservative Party leader on June 7, 2019. Javid applied for this post, but retired in the penultimate round of the preliminary decision held within the House of Commons on June 20 . Boris Johnson appointed Javid Treasury Secretary in his cabinet on July 24, 2019 . On February 13, 2020, Javid resigned from office after internal party disputes over the leadership of his ministry. Rishi Sunak became the new finance minister. Dominic Cummings , Boris Johnson's chief advisor , had previously called for the exchange of all advisors to the Chancellor of the Exchequer. Javid found this incompatible with his "self-respect" and resigned.
