The University of Exeter ( UoE for short , German  University of Exeter , Latin Universitas Exoniensis ) is a British university based in Exeter ( Devon ) that offers a variety of courses . The math faculty and the renowned economics faculty ( University of Exeter Business School ) deserve special mention . The archaeological faculty is the only one in the UK to offer a degree in experimental archeology . The university is a member of the prestigious Russell Group , an association of research-intensive British elite universities as a quasi counterpart to the American Ivy League .

The University of Exeter is highly regarded and known for its academic excellence, according to the Guardian League Tables 2020 the elite university is in the top 10 in the UK. According to the Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2014, 82% of research performance was rated either as "world leader" (29%) or "internationally excellent" (53%). In addition, Exeter is the UK's fastest growing research university. Exeter also achieved the "TEF Gold" rating in the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) , which is the best ranking. The institution is also a member of Universities UK , the Alan Turing Institute , the Met Office , the European University Association , the Association of Commonwealth Universities and an accredited institution of the Association of MBAs (AMBA).

Rankings

While the University of Exeter was in the national university rankings in places 25 to 35 until 2006, it was in the 2010 ranking of the Times for the first time among the top ten universities. As of 2011, the university has consistently been listed in the top ten percent of the approximately 120 UK universities. 2007, the University of Exeter by the Times Higher Education and in 2013 by the Sunday Times as "College of the Year" ( university of the Year Award). In the international Times Higher Education World University Ranking 2015/2016 , the University of Exeter ranks 93rd worldwide. The international CWTS Leiden Ranking 2015 places the university in eighth place in Europe and in 34th place among universities worldwide.

campus

The university is divided into three campuses, Streatham Campus (main campus ), St. Luke's and Cornwall campuses in Falmouth. In recent years, the Streatham Campus has repeatedly been voted the most beautiful campus in England , which is due to the very extensive park-like design. It has also been the setting for various film productions. The UoEx only became a university after the Second World War and was previously just a college that was best known for its mining academy .

Personalities

The most famous graduates of the University of Exeter are the Harry Potter author Joanne K. Rowling (Bachelor of Arts in French and Classical Antiquities), the later Turkish President Abdullah Gül (stay during his doctoral studies in economics) and Peter (degree in sports science) and Zara Phillips (graduate physiotherapist), the children of Anne, Princess Royal and grandsons of the reigning Queen Elizabeth II.

University of Exeter Chancellors

In June 2016 Paul Myners will take over the office of sixth chancellor from his predecessor Floella Benjamin , who held the office for ten years.
