The London Metropolitan University (informally London Met ; formerly London Polytechnic ) is a university in London in the United Kingdom . The university with around 14,000 students has two campuses: the City Campus in the heart of the City of London and the North Campus in the Islington district . It has existed in its current form since 2002 when the London Guildhall University (founded 1848) and the University of North London (founded 1896) merged.
The eight faculties offer a very broad spectrum with courses in the humanities, education, law and social sciences, medicine and natural sciences. One focus of the courses is in the field of economics. These modules are offered at the London Metropolitan Business School, based in the financial district of London.
A building on the North Campus was designed by the world-famous architect Daniel Libeskind and has been an architectural highlight of the Islington district since its completion in 2004.
