history
The history of Glyndŵr University can be traced back to 1887. That year the Wrexham School of Science and Art was founded. The courses offered were first recognized by the University of London in 1924.
Upon recognition of the courses taught, the Wrexham School of Science and Art was renamed the Denbighshire Technical Institute in 1927. Other temporary names for the educational institute were Denbighshire Technical College (1939) and North East Wales Institute of Higher Education (1975). In 1993 the North East Wales Institute of Higher Education became an associate member of the University of Wales.
Finally, in 2004, full membership of the University of Wales was granted. In June 2014, the UK Ministry of Home Office authorized the University of Wrexham to fund European students through grants from the State of Wales. This authorization was extended in November 2014 to support all foreign students.
