Administrative history

Flintshire, one of the thirteen traditional counties of Wales, was also a Welsh county until 1974. The administrative county of Flintshire was abolished in 1974 and divided into the districts of Rhuddlan , Wrexham Maelor , Alyn and Deeside and Delyn of the newly formed county of Clwyd . During the administrative reform of 1996, Clwyd and its districts were dissolved. A new Principal Area Flintshire was formed from the districts of Alyn and Deeside and Delyn. Flintshire now has county status again.
