Flintshire ( Welsh : Sir y Fflint ) is a principal area in north-east Wales . Flintshire is also one of the thirteen traditional counties of Wales, but as such has different boundaries than the current Principal Area.

geography

Flintshire is on the Irish Sea and the Dee Estuary . On the land side, Flintshire borders England to the east, Denbighshire to the west and Wrexham to the south . The main cities are Connah's Quay , Buckley , Flint , Hawarden , Holywell and Mold . Local attractions include Flint Castle and Ewloe Castle .

Town twinning

Since 1980 there has been a town partnership with the town of Menden (Sauerland) in Germany.

Administrative history

Flintshire was originally a county and was founded in 1284, seven years after King Edward I began work on Flint Castle .

Flintshire, one of the thirteen traditional counties of Wales, was also a Welsh county until 1974. The administrative county of Flintshire was abolished in 1974 and divided into the districts of Rhuddlan , Wrexham Maelor , Alyn and Deeside and Delyn of the newly formed county of Clwyd . During the administrative reform of 1996, Clwyd and its districts were dissolved. A new Principal Area Flintshire was formed from the districts of Alyn and Deeside and Delyn. Flintshire now has county status again.

Sports

Although Flintshire is in North Wales, the poorest part of the whole kingdom, Flintshire has a proud history of sports and sports. There are two most popular sports in Wales: football and rugby. Football is more popular in North Wales and that is why many footballers are from Flintshire.

Soccer

Today a Flintshire football club plays in the Welsh Premier League , GAP Connah's Quay. Airbus UK is represented in the Cymru Alliance, the second highest league. Since 2008 both the reputation and the performance of the Flintshir teams have increased noticeably.
