Carmarthenshire ( Welsh : Sir Gaerfyrddin ) is a principal area and traditional county in south-west Wales .
The administrative seat and eponymous place is the city of Carmarthen . Other significant locations are Ammanford , Burry Port , Kidwelly , Llanelli , Llandeilo , Newcastle Emlyn , Llandovery , St. Clears , Whitland and Pendine .
Administrative history
Carmarthenshire is one of the thirteen traditional counties of Wales . Until 1974 Carmarthenshire was also a Welsh administrative county and was then divided into the three districts of Carmarthen, Llanelli and Dinefwr of the newly formed county of Dyfed . During the administrative reform of 1996, the three districts were merged to form the Principal Area Carmarthenshire. Carmarthenshire now has county status again.
