Michael Frendo

Michael Frendo (born July 29, 1955 ) is a Maltese politician , former foreign minister and speaker of the House of Representatives .

biography

Frendo studied law at the University of Malta and graduated in 1977. He then studied at the University of Exeter . He has been a member of the House of Representatives for the Partit Nazzjonalista since 1987 . He has held various ministerial posts in previous cabinets. From 1992 to 1994 he was Minister for Youth and the Arts, and from 1994 to 1996 Minister for Transport, Communication and Technology. From 2004 to 2008 he was Maltese Foreign Minister. After the parliamentary elections on March 8, 2008 , he left the cabinet and was replaced as Foreign Minister by the previous Minister of the Interior and Justice, Tonio Borg .

In addition to Maltese and English , Frendo also speaks French and Italian . He is married and has three children.

On April 29, 2010 he became Speaker of the House of Representatives and thus successor to Louis Galea as Speaker of Parliament . He held this office until April 2013, when he was replaced by Angelo Farrugia .
