Emmanuel Attard Bezzina

Emmanuel Attard Bezzina was a Maltese politician for the Malta Labor Party (MLP) and Speaker of the House .

biography

Attard Bezzina began his political career when he was elected member of the House of Representatives for the first time in the 1947 election as a candidate for the Malta Labor Party (MLP) , in which he represented constituency 3 . In the elections in 1950 , 1951 , 1953 , 1955 , 1962 and 1966 he was re-elected as a member of parliament, the last of which he represented constituency 4 in parliament.

In June 1971 he was elected to succeed Alfred Bonnici as Speaker of the House , making him the first parliamentary speaker to be appointed by the Labor Party after Malta's independence in 1964. In September 1976, Nestu Laiviera followed him as Speaker of the House.

After leaving parliament, he served as ambassador between 1976 and 1985 .
