Fabian Haas (* 1967 in Heilbronn - Sontheim ) is a German entomologist . His main research interests are beetles (Coleoptera) and earwigs (Dermaptera).

Live and act

After attending primary school in Heilbronn- Böckingen and the Robert-Mayer-Gymnasium in Heilbronn , he graduated from high school in 1987. From 1987 to 1989 he did his military service. From 1989 to 1993 and from 1994 to 1995 he studied zoology, genetics and paleontology at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen . From 1993 to 1994 he completed a degree in biology at the University of Exeter in England, where he graduated with a Master of Philosophy with the thesis Geometry and Mechanics of Hind wing folding in Dermaptera and Coleoptera . In 1995 he made his diploma in Tübingen with a thesis on The Phylogeny of Forficulina, a subordination of the Dermaptera . From 1995 to 1998 he studied at the University of Jena , where the dissertation he Geometry, mechanics and evolution of the wing folding in the Coleoptera to Dr. rer. nat. received his doctorate. After completing his doctorate, Haas worked as a research assistant at Ulm University and then as the national contact person for the Global Taxonomy Initiative of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) in Stuttgart.

Haas specializes in insect taxonomy and functional morphology. His projects include the monitoring of insects, the digitization of collections, and the relationship of biological research to CBD. He also conducts entomological studies for the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). Since 2006 he has been the head of the Biosystematics Support Group at the International Center of Insect Physiology and Ecology (icipe) in Nairobi, Kenya. He has lived in Leipzig since 2013. In addition to numerous specialist articles in international journals, Haas is one of the editors of the journal Arthropod Systematics & Phylogeny of the Senckenberg Natural History Collections in Dresden .

In 2005, Haas and Danilo Matzke described the catchy species Schizoproreus vulcanus that occurs on the Lokon volcano on Sulawesi .
