Ahmed Zaki Yamani
Ahmed Zaki Yamani ( Arabic أحمد زكي يماني, DMG Aḥmad Zakī Yamānī ; Born June 30, 1930 in Mecca , Saudi Arabia ) is a Saudi Arabian politician and lawyer .
Life
With degrees from New York University School of Law and Harvard Law School and a doctorate from the University of Exeter , Yamani became an advisor to the Saudi government in 1958.
On March 9, 1962, he became the second oil minister in the history of Saudi Arabia, until he was dismissed by King Fahd on October 5, 1986 . During his tenure as oil minister, Yamani played a key role in OPEC's activities, particularly in the 1973 oil embargo . In 1975 Yamani was one of the hostages in the OPEC hostage situation .
