Sultan bin Mohamed al-Qassimi III. ( Arabic سلطان بن محمد القاسمي, DMG Sulṭān b. Muḥammad al-Qāsimī ; * July 2, 1939 ) is the ruler of the Emirate of Sharjah and a member of the Supreme Council of the United Arab Emirates . He has ruled since 1972. Sultan bin Mohamed al-Qasimi has doctorates from the English universities of Exeter (philosophy, 1985) and Durham (history, 1999).

In 2002 he received the King Faisal Prize for services to Islam. As the main sponsor, he financed the construction of the Islamic Forum Penzberg in Upper Bavaria.
