Sheikh Hamad ibn Muhammad ash-Sharqi ( Arabic حمد بن محمد الشرقي, DMG Ḥamad b. Muḥammad aš-Šarqī ; * May 25, 1948) is the current ruler of the Emirate of Fujairah since he took power after the death of his father Sheikh Muhammad ibn Hamad al-Sharqi in 1974.

The Sharqi family is very closely related to the ruling family of Abu Dhabi , the Nahyan family . This gives them access to high offices and federal funds that go further than the similarly small emirates. Sheikh Hamad received his education in Great Britain , he is considered a modern ruler, and his reforms have put him in good contact with business people and foreigners.

He attended the Military Academy in Mons in 1970 and was Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries from 1971 to 1974.

Sheikh Hamad is married to Princess Fatima bint Thani Al Maktum from the Al Maktum family , the ruling family of Dubai . They have six children, three boys and three girls, of whom Sheikh Muhammad (* 1986) is the Crown Prince of Fujairah. His brother Raschid (* 1987) was appointed chairman of the media agency and the tennis association in January 2007. Both continued their university education in Great Britain at the American College in London. Sheikh Maktum, the third son (* 1991), attended school in Fujairah.
