Julius Wilhelm von Strube (born November 7, 1774 in Ehrenburg , † November 17, 1834 in Hameln ) was Herr auf Behrensen (district of Coppenbrügge ), colonel in the royal Hanoverian army and from March 27, 1814 first commander of the Hamelin Landwehr battalion .

origin

The family was raised to the nobility on June 15, 1793, the Electorate of Hanover was recognized on April 27, 1807. His parents were Georg Philipp von Strube and his wife Sophie von Roden († April 5, 1795). His father was the curbraunschweig-lüneburg bailiff in Ehrenburg. The male line of the family went out on April 30, 1914 with the landscape councilor Alexander von Strube .

Life

He joined the 7th Cavalry Regiment as a cadet on October 1, 1790. There he joined the company of Major General von Malortie . As early as 1793 he was used in the First Coalition War. He was able to distinguish himself in Brabant and was named cornet on February 28, 1794 . On November 12, 1801 he inherited the Behrensen estate near Hameln (the family only sold the estate in 1932). In 1803, Kurhannover was occupied by French troops and the Electoral Hanoverian army was dissolved with the Artlenburg Convention on July 16, 1803. Strube then withdrew to his estate. He probably wanted to join the King's German Legion , from January 21st, 1806 he was listed as a cornet in the 2nd Dragoon Regiment, but on February 15th, 1806 the contract was canceled and he was probably left out of his estate.

But after the Wars of Liberation in 1814 also reached Kurhannover, Strube volunteered. On January 6, 1814, he was the oldest captain in the Hamelin Landwehr Battalion of the 4th Hanover Infantry Regiment No. 164 , and was appointed its commander on March 27, 1814. On July 12, 1814, the battalion was transferred to Brabant and was garrisoned in Antwerp . He was promoted to major on February 7, 1815 , and also fought with the battalion in the Battle of Waterloo , where he was wounded. The battalion was part of the 5th Hanoverian Brigade under Colonel von Vincke, which in turn was part of Picton's 5th Infantry Division.

For this he received on June 18, 1815 the Knight's Cross of the Guelph Order and the Hanoverian Waterloo Medal . After the Second Peace of Paris, the battalion returned to Hameln on January 25, 1816. In 1821 he was transferred to the 4th Infantry Regiment in Celle as a lieutenant colonel , and he received a silver trophy as a souvenir from the officers of the battalion. But the following year he came to the 2nd Infantry Regiment in Calenberg. In 1833 the army was downsized and Strube received his retirement with the character of a colonel and an increased pension.

He suffered a stroke on his birthday and died a little later. After his death he was buried in the garrison cemetery in Hameln .

family

He married on January 19, 1800 in Nienburg Elisabeth Wilhelmine Amalie Helmer (born January 16, 1778 - May 2, 1841), the daughter of the pastor Heinrich Adolf Helmer and Friederike Christiane Köhler . The couple had two children:
