Sheikh Chalifa bin Zayid Al Nahyan (born January 25, 1948 in al-Ain ; Arabic خليفة بن زايد بن سلطان آل نهيان, DMG Ḫalīfa bin Zāyid bin Sulṭān Āl Nahyān , also Khalifa bin Zayed ) is the President of the United Arab Emirates . He is also the Emir and Prime Minister of the Emirates Abu Dhabi . According to Forbes Magazine , he is one of the richest and most influential people. With an estimated net worth of $ 15 billion, he was the fourth richest monarch in the world in 2011.

Life

Chalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan is the eldest son of Zayid bin Sultan Al Nahyan and Shaikha Hassah bin Muhammad bin Chalifa bin Zayid Al Nahyan. His brother is Muhammad bin Zayid Al Nahyan .

After his father took control of Abu Dhabi on September 18, 1966, Chalifa bin Zayid Al Nahyan was appointed representative in the eastern district of the Emirates Abu Dhabi, with Al Ain as its administrative seat , and was appointed his successor on February 1, 1969. When the armed forces for Abu Dhabi were established on February 2, 1969, he became Minister of Defense and oversaw the development of the military . When the government of Abu Dhabi was reorganized on July 1, 1971, he became Prime Minister and Minister of Finance and Defense. When the UAE was founded on December 2, 1971, he was appointed Prime Minister of the UAE and his father became President. In May 1976 he took over the post of Deputy Commander of the Armed Forces , which had been split up between the Emirates before that time and were under the respective command of the individual Emirates.

He is chairman of the Abu Dhabi Supreme Oil Council , which has great power over energy issues. He has been the President of the United Arab Emirates since November 3, 2004. He took over the office of his father, who had died the day before. Because of his father's illness, he had previously been in charge of government for a while. He is also the Emir and Prime Minister of the Emirates Abu Dhabi.

Sheikh Chalifa is known for his interest in typical sports, mainly horse and camel races . With the Azzam, he owns the longest mega yacht in the world (as of 2016).

At the opening of the Burj Dubai on January 4, 2010, it was announced that the tallest building in the world will be renamed the Burj Khalifa after him .

In January 2014, Sheikh Khalifa suffered a stroke. Since then, his brother, Crown Prince Sheikh Muhammad bin Zayed Al Nahyan , has in fact been responsible for all official business.
