Innes McCartney (born 1964 ) is a British author , diver , historian and underwater archaeologist .

Life

McCartney studied history at Keele University , the University of Exeter and Bournemouth University .

In 1999 he found the British submarine HMS M1 . In 2001, while diving, he located the British shipwrecks HMS Indefatigable and HMS Defense , which sank during the Battle of the Skagerrak in 1916 . The Comet shipwreck was discovered by McCartney in July 2006 near Cape La Hague. In 2008 he found the SS Armenian shipwreck . McCartney wrote several books about his discoveries in underwater archeology .
