• HMS Defense (1763) , launched in 1763, was used in many battles in the American War of Independence , in the wars of the French Revolution and the Napoleonic Wars before it ran aground off Jutland in 1811 .
• HMS Defense (1907) , launched in 1907, was an armored cruiser that was sunk during the Battle of the Skagerrak on May 31, 1916.
• HMS Defense (1945) , launched in 1945, was a light cruiser . Work on it was interrupted until 1954, and in 1957 it was renamed HMS Lion (C34) .
