Christian Kuhlemann

Christian Kuhlemann (born February 4, 1891 in Misburg , † September 3, 1964 in Hanover ) was a German engineer , entrepreneur and politician ( DP ). He was a member of the German Bundestag from 1949 to 1953 .

Life and work

Christian Kuhlemann was born as the son of the cement factory director Maximilian Kuhlemann (1857–1929) in Misburg near Hanover. After attending secondary school, he completed a degree in mechanical engineering and chemical technology at the Technical University of Hanover , which he completed in 1919 with an examination as a graduate engineer. He was a member of the Corps Saxonia .

He then worked in the iron and steel industry , including at Buderus in Wetzlar and at Bergwerks-AG in Gelsenkirchen-Schalke . He also went on a study trip to the United States as well as Mexico and Canada . In 1925 he joined the Hannoversche Portland-Cementfabrik AG, founded by his grandfather Friedrich Kuhlemann and headquartered in Misburg , as commercial director . After the death of his father in 1929, he became a managing director of the company.

After the Second World War, Kuhlemann was chairman of the Association of Technical Inspection Associations (TÜV). He participated in the re-establishment of the Hanover Chamber of Commerce and Industry , was initially its deputy president and then its president from 1953 to 1964. From 1945 to 1953 he acted as deputy chairman of the German Industry and Trade Congress (DIHT) based in Bonn . From 1948 to 1964 he was also chairman of the Hanover Industry Club . In 1962 he moved to the supervisory board of Portland-Cementfabrik AG. In addition to his work as an entrepreneur and association official, he was chairman of the Hanover University Association from 1949. As such, took part in the reconstruction of the University of Hanover. Christian Kuhlemann died on September 3, 1964 in Hanover.

Before 1933, Kuhlemann was a member of the German People's Party (DVP). In 1945 he joined the Lower Saxony State Party (NLP), which was renamed the German Party (DP) at the end of 1946. From 1947 to 1949 he was a member of the Economic Council of the Bizone for Lower Saxony , in which the DP formed a parliamentary group with the CDU / CSU until October 1948 . In the first federal election in 1949 , Kuhlemann was elected to the German Bundestag via the state list , to which he belonged until 1953. Here he was chairman of the committee for foreign trade issues and, since September 8, 1950, chairman of the advisory board for trade agreements.

Honors

The Christian Kuhlemann Foundation , founded in November 1964, is named after Kuhlemann . Its purpose is to promote science at the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz University of Hanover.
