HP Schlotter works primarily in the artistic fields of painting, drawing, mixed media / collage and graphic art. In addition, he also created small bronze sculptures, wood sculptures, objects made of various materials, and room installations. An important aspect of his work are his artist books, which he has been filling continuously for around 30 years.

The painting consists of pigments that are processed with acrylic binders on canvas or nettle, often the picture panels are divided. He also works on paper, where collages and overpainting are a frequently used technique. More recently, so-called hybrid images have also been used to transfer drafts or small image formats onto image carriers using digital processes and then paint over them. His motifs in pictures on canvas or paper are mostly tangible forms and found objects, which often have a still life character, in the sculptures the human figure dominates. HP Schlotter has shown his works in over fifty solo exhibitions and numerous group and exhibition participations since 1976. His works are in private and public collections.
