Richard Goleszowski (* 1959 in the county of Suffolk , England ), known as Richard Starzak , is an English animator and entertainer .

Life

Goleszowski grew up in Ipswich in the county of Suffolk on. He graduated from Northgate Grammar School and went on to study art at Exeter University . After graduating there, after a few attempts in animation and a sideline job as a disc jockey, he went to the English animation company Aardman Animation in the early 1980s . In the following nine years he worked on various short films and commercials. The latter include e.g. B. a film based on the hit Sledgehammer by Peter Gabriel . He then made his first own film Ident and two pilot films for Rex the Runt in 1989 . He also made commercials for various European and British companies such as Domestos, Grolsch , Cadbury and the confectionery Weetos and Maltesers .

In 1992 Goleszowski left Aardman Animation, went to New Zealand as Production Advisor for Oscar and Friends and wrote the scripts for 13 episodes of Rex the Runt , which he also directed. Following this award-winning success for BBC2 , he directed the BBC's animation department on the still -hit film Robbie the Reindeer . He was executive producer on the next season of Rex the Runt . In 2002 he produced Hooves of Fire and since 2003 he has directed two seasons of the Creature Comforts series for ITV . This series is based on the Oscar- winning short film of the same name by Nick Park .

At the same time Goleszowski began for Aardman Animation with the children's films about Shaun the Sheep , produced in clay animation , which are also successfully broadcast in Germany in KIKA and in the ARD Show mit der Maus . He initially directed Shaun the Sheep and wrote the scripts for several episodes.

In 2015 he wrote the screenplay for the feature film Shaun the Sheep - The Film with Mark Burton .

Goleszowski has been employed by Aardman Animations as Creative Director for broadcast and development work since 2005 . He has two children.

Prizes and awards

  • 2002: Award for the Best TV Special at the 3rd International Festival of Animated Feature Films and TV Specials for Hooves of Fire
