Company founder was Willem Neerfeldt . In 2008, the global SABMiller group took over the company. Competition violation

In April 2007 against Grolsch - in addition to the other participating Dutch breweries or subsidiaries of Heineken , Bavaria and InBev - in a competition of the European Commission for collusion in the Dutch beer market in the years 1996 to 1999, a fine of 32 million euros imposed . On July 3, 2007, Grolsch brought an action for annulment against this decision of the Commission before the then court of first instance . In a judgment of September 15, 2011, the General Court of the European Union ruled that Grolsch's action was upheld and that the Commission's decision due to a lack of justification was declared null and void.
