history

The company was formed in 2002 from the merger of South African Breweries (SAB) and Miller Brewing Company .

In 2008 SABMiller founded the MillerCoors joint venture with Molson Coors . The aim was to bundle sales activities in North America.

On September 21, 2011, SABMiller announced that they had reached an agreement with the Australian Foster's Group on a takeover. SABMiller offered 5.10 for a Foster's share AUD . This brought Foster's market valuation to $ 9.9 billion. The takeover was completed in December 2011. SABMiller had previously failed with a hostile takeover attempt in August 2011 .

When the rumor arose in September 2014 that AB-InBev was interested in buying up SABMiller, the latter responded with a takeover offer to Heineken in order to protect itself from the takeover through growth. Heineken turned down a purchase offer after consulting with its largest shareholder.

In May 2015, SABMiller took over the English craft beer brewery Meantime from London. Meantime had an output of 50,000 hl in 2013.

In September 2015, the global market leader Anheuser-Busch informed InBev that they were interested in buying SABMiller. On October 13, 2015, it was announced that SABMiller would be acquired by Anheuser-Busch InBev for 96 billion euros . In February 2016, the Japanese brewery group Asahi submitted a binding offer worth the equivalent of a good 2.5 billion euros to take over the beer brands Grolsch, Peroni and Meantime from SABMiller; the sale is a condition of government approval for AB InBev to acquire SABMiller. The merger was completed in October 2016. In 2017, Asahi Beer also acquired the East Central European breweries Kompania Piwowarska (including Lech, Tyskie ), Plzeňský Prazdroj (including Pilsner Urquell , Gambrinus ), Dreher and Ursus .
