history

In 1846 the Birra Peroni company was founded by Francesco Peroni (* 1818) in Vigevano . In 1864 a second brewery was opened near Rome . The brewery became known nationwide in the 1950s and was able to establish itself on the Italian market.

The Birra Raffo brewery was bought in 1961. In 1963, Francesco Peronis' nephew, Carlo Peroni, brewed a new type of beer that was christened Nastro Azzurro . The special thing about this beer was that a quarter of the grain in the original recipe was replaced by Italian corn. This maize comes from the northern Italian region around Nostrano , near Bergamo .

In 2003, Birra Peroni was taken over by the SABMiller Group. In 2016, SABMiller and the Japanese brewery group Asahi signed an agreement that stipulates that Asahi will take over the Peroni, Grolsch and Meantime brands . The sale was completed with the merger of Anheuser-Busch InBev and SABMiller in October 2016.
