Vigevano ( German outdated: Vigen ) is a city in the province of Pavia , Italy with 63,623 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019).
The square Piazza Ducale with numerous Renaissance buildings and the Castell Sforzesco palace complex are well worth seeing .
Location
The city is located about 35 km southwest of Milan near the Ticino River .
history
Vigevano is a settlement that already existed in Roman times, which they called Victumulae . Not far from the city took place in the second Punic War in the year 218 BC. The battle on the Ticinus took place in BC , in which the Romans were defeated by the Carthaginians under Hannibal .
