Gropello Cairoli is a northern Italian municipality ( comune ) with 4389 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Pavia in Lombardy . The municipality is located about 12 kilometers west of Pavia on the edge of the Parco naturale lombardo della Valle del Ticino .

history

From the 9th century, gray pellum or ripelium is known, which is located directly on the Via Francigena . The addition Cairoli comes from the 19th century in memory of the Cairoli brothers who played an important role during the Risorgimentos .

The A7 autostrada from Milan to Genoa and the Strada Statale 596 dei Caroli from Pavia to Mortara run through the municipality . The Gropelli Carioli train station is on the Vercelli – Pavia line .
