Arena Po is a northern Italian municipality ( comune ) with 1564 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Pavia in Lombardy .
geography
The municipality is located about 19.5 kilometers southeast of Pavia in the Oltrepò Pavese and borders directly on the province of Piacenza ( Emilia-Romagna ) and includes the Ca 'de Ratti , Chieppa , Fabbrica , Fornace , Ghelfa , Monteacuto , Parpanese , Piantà , Plessa , Ripaldina , Salerno and Zappellone . The northern border forms the Po , into which the Baldonezza flows, which corresponds to the eastern municipal border. The neighboring municipalities are: Bosnasco , Castel San Giovanni (PC), Pieve Porto Morone , Portalbera , San Zenone al Po , Spessa , Stradella , Zenevredo and Zerbo .
history
The place is first mentioned in a document from the 10th century from the monastery of St. Peter in Pavia. From then on, an important ford through the Po is attested.
traffic
Arena Po station is on the Alessandria – Piacenza railway line . The Autostrada A21 (without connection) and the former Strada Statale 10 Padana Inferiore (now a provincial road) lead through the municipality from Turin to Monselice .
