Galliavola is a municipality with 209 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in southwestern Lombardy in northern Italy .

geography

The municipality is located about 28 kilometers west-southwest of the provincial capital Pavia and about 50 kilometers southwest of the regional capital Milan on the west bank of the Agogna in the area of Lomellina . The place is at 90  m slm and in the climatic classification of Italian communities in zone E, 2 619 GG.

Galliavola has no districts; the neighboring communities are Ferrera Erbognone , Lomello , Pieve del Cairo and Villa Biscossi .

history

The original town center was in Grumello, a place just north of Galliavola on the road to Lomello. This place was destroyed by Milan in 1213. In 1726 it was still there as a group of houses, but had completely disappeared in 1925. The current town center was mentioned in 1250 as S. Laurencius de Campis and was then outside the inhabited area in the fields (Campis). The place was also mentioned in 1452 in the Statuta Stratarum di Pavia, already named Galliavola here. In 1707 the place had 603 inhabitants, in 1901 the highest number of inhabitants was reached with 924 inhabitants.

  • San Lorenzo , church in the town center, which was built in 1834 over an older church building (demolished in 1833, mentioned in 1250 as S. Laurencius de Campis).
  • Castello di Galliavola , castle in the town center, around 14th century.
  • Monumento ai Caduti , memorial in the town center for the victims of the two world wars.
  • Beata Vergine Addolorata allo Zerbaiolo , church just outside the town center at the cemetery. Was built around 1100; in the 15th century the apse and presbytery (choir) were renewed.
