history

The name of Lomellina comes from the old capital of the region, Lomello or Laumellum in Roman . In ancient times it was the Ligurian tribes of the Laever and the Maricer, named by Pliny the Younger as the founder of Pavias, and the Libicer. The Romans themselves hardly settled in the area. The area of today's Lomellina only gained importance with the invasion of the Lombards , who established their capital in Pavia. The county of Lomello was born, ruled by the Candia family. In 1146 the city of Pavia was able to conquer the county.

In 1743 the western part of the Lomellina was annexed by Piedmont . In 1859 Lomellina became part of the province of Pavia .
