Mortara is a municipality with 15,609 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Pavia in the Italian region of Lombardy .

Mortara is the birthplace of the archbishop and diplomat Sante Portalupi . The beatified priest and founder of the order Francesco Pianzola died here in 1943.
