The Count Alberti sold the place to Florence in 1149, who introduced the new place name Castelfiorentino , but the rulers remained in the place ( confirmed by Frederick I in 1164 and Otto IV in 1210 ). The first documented Podestà was Forese di Buonaccorso Adimari , mentioned in 1252 and sent from Florence. After the battle of Montaperti on September 4, 1260 and the associated defeat of Florence against Siena , the peace negotiations and the signing of the peace treaty took place here.
