Vicchio is an Italian commune with 8150 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the metropolitan city of Florence in the Tuscany region . The place belongs to the administrative community Comunità Montana Mugello .

geography

Vicchio is located in the Mugello , about 30 km northeast of Florence . Districts ( frazioni ) are Barbiana, Casole, Cistio, Gattaia, Molezzano, Piazzano, Ponte a Vicchio, Rupecanina, Vespignano and Villore.

The neighboring municipalities are Borgo San Lorenzo , Dicomano , Marradi and Pontassieve .

history

An earthquake on June 29, 1919 killed around 40 people in Vicchio, and every second building in the village collapsed. The quake had its epicenter in Vicchio and reached an intensity from VII to IX on the Mercalli scale .
