Bagno a Ripoli ( pronunciation : [ 'baŋŋo a' rri: poli ]) is an Italian commune in the metropolitan city of Florence ( Tuscany region ) with 25,600 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019). The municipality is considered a wealthy suburb of the city of Florence .
geography
Bagno a Ripoli is located about 7 km southeast of the provincial and regional capital Florence in the climatic classification of Italian municipalities in zone D, 1,854 GG. The community lies on a plain on the Arno with many palaces and villas. The southwestern districts are on the River Ema . Fiesole is on the opposite bank .
The districts include Antella, Candeli, Le Gualchiere, Grassina, Lappeggi, Ponte a Ema, Osteria Nuova, Rimaggio, San Donato in Collina, Terzano, Vallina and Villamagna.
The neighboring municipalities are Fiesole, Florence, Greve in Chianti , Impruneta , Pontassieve and Rignano sull'Arno .
history
Bagno a Ripoli is of Etruscan origin and developed in the 3rd century BC. To a trading place.
After Italy entered the war in June 1940, the fascist regime set up an internment camp ( campo di concentramento ) in Bagno a Ripoli . It was located in the Villa la Selva , a country house whose owner had emigrated to Palestine. After Italy's attack on Greece in the autumn of 1940, almost only Greeks were interned there, including Jews. Anglolibyans and Yugoslavs were added in 1942/43 .

- There are remains of old thermal baths in the village and there are some castles in the vicinity.

- Oratorio di Santa Caterina all'Antella (also called Oratorio di Santa Caterina delle Ruote ), oratory near the district of Antella. Contains three works by Spinello Aretino .
- At Easter, passion plays are performed in the Grassina district, the roots of which go back to the 17th century.

- Circolo del Golf dell'Ugolino , the oldest golf course in Tuscany and the seat of the oldest golf club in Italy.
