Mentana is a municipality in the metropolitan city of Rome in the Italian region of Lazio with 23,306 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019). It is located 29 kilometers northeast of Rome .

The districts of Tor Lupara di Mentana and Santa Lucia di Mentana were spun off on October 15, 2001 into the new municipality of Fonte Nuova .

politics

Guido Tabanella ( center-right alliance ) was elected mayor for the second time in June 2006. His center-right alliance also has the majority in the municipal council with 12 out of 20 seats. Marco Benedetti has been mayor since June 23, 2016.

history

On November 3, 1867 defeated troops of the Papal States under General Hermann Chancellor and French auxiliary troops under General Balthazar de Polhès in Mentana and the volunteer army of Giuseppe Garibaldi , which conquer the Papal States and integrated into the new unified Italy wanted.
