Casape is a municipality in the metropolitan city of Rome in the Italian region of Lazio with 678 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019). It is located 47 kilometers east of Rome .

geography

Casape is located on a ridge of the Monti Prenestini east of Tivoli. It is a member of the Comunità Montana Monti Sabini e Tiburtini .

history

In 1051 the settlement was donated to the monastery of S. Andrea al Clivo Scauri in Rome and came into the possession of the Colonna around 1300 . In 1320 it went back to the Roman monastery, which it sold to the Leonini family after 1527; these passed the place on to the Roman Santacroce in 1567. From these he passed in 1600 to the Duke of Poli, Lotario II. Conti. The Barberini followed in 1632, and in 1655 the place came to the northern Italian family of the princes Pio di Carpi di Savoia until 1755; the last feudal lords were the Brancaccio until 1816. The place name is now interpreted as Casa Ape, which is reminiscent of the Barberini's coat of arms.

Attractions

  • The recently restored Castello at the beginning of the historic center formed a barrier for the eastern access to the Borgo Fortificato. It used to be divided into private apartments, but after the renovation it serves as a cultural center.
  • The church of San Pietro Apostolo, built after 1950 within the modern district, replaces the church of the same name, which was once inserted directly into the Castello as a palace chapel. A crucifixion in the form of the High Middle Ages and a painting of Christ giving blessings as a teacher of the world form the furnishings.

Festivals

The Sagra della Mosciarella, dedicated to a variety of chestnut, is held in October.
