Genzano di Roma is a city in the metropolitan city of Rome in the Italian region of Lazio with 23,755 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019). It is located 29 kilometers southeast of Rome .

geography

Genzano is located in the Alban Mountains above Lake Nemi , an extinct volcano. The old town lies on the former rim of the crater in a panoramic position. It belongs to the municipalities of the Castelli Romani .

The majority of the inhabitants of Genzano belong to the Roman Catholic religious community. The city belongs to the diocese of Albano and has three parishes. The eastern districts of Landi and Colli di Cicerone belong to the diocese of Velletri-Segni .

  • September 18 : Feast of the namesake San Tommaso da Villanova
  • Infiorata: Every year on the weekend of Corpus Christi, the Infiorata (the flower festival) has been taking place for over 200 years , during which a huge carpet of flowers is laid out in Via Italo Belardi, showing various images on approx. 2000 m². The famous French-Danish ballet master August Bournonville first staged the related ballet Blomsterfesten i Genzano in 1858 .
