Vivaro Romano is a municipality in the metropolitan city of Rome in the Italian region of Lazio with 163 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019). The place is 69 km northeast of Rome .

geography

Vivaro Romano is located above the Turano Valley in the Lucretili Mountains on the border with the Abruzzo region . It is a member of the Comunità Montana Valle dell'Aniene .

history

The place was a settlement of the Aequer , the 229 BC. Was raised to a Roman colony . Since sacrificial animals were bred here, it was given the name Vivarum . From the 11th century Vivaro belonged to Farfa Abbey . In the 15th century it came to the Orsini family and later to the Brancaleone and the Borghese . In 1799 the castle was destroyed by French troops.
