history

At the site of Santa Marinella was the place Punicum in antiquity, which possibly goes back to the Etruscans . After the fall of the Roman Empire, Punicum was abandoned and the humble village of Santa Marinella was not created until after the year 1000. In the 16th century, the Barberini built their castle on the foundations of an ancient fortification. In 1887 this was acquired by the Odescalchi family. It was not until the 20th century that the place developed into a city with the advent of bathing tourism. In the 1950s and 1960s, Santa Marinella was considered a meeting place for celebrities and filmmakers.

Santa Marinella became a city in 1990.
