Anguillara Sabazia is a city in the Italian metropolitan city of Rome in the Lazio region with 19,499 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019). Anguillara has had municipal rights since 2001.

Location of the municipality in the province of Rome

Anguillara Sabazia is 33 km northwest of Rome and 11 km east of Bracciano .

It is located in the former volcanically active region, the Sabatine Mountains , directly on Lake Bracciano , a lake that was created by the collapse of an underground magma chamber as a result of volcanic eruptions of the Vulcano Sabatino . The well-preserved medieval old town is located on a hill protruding into the lake. The municipality is part of the Bracciano - Martignano Nature Park and extends between the two lakes into the hilly landscape south of it to the Fosso Prato Viale . The Arrone River , which drains Lake Bracciano, flows through Anguillara. The municipality extends from 143 to 337 m slm

The community is located in earthquake zone 3 (little risk).

The districts are Colle Sabazio, Colle dei Pini, Fonte Claudia, Angzillara Stazione and Ponton dell'Elce.

The neighboring towns are Bracciano , Campagnano di Roma , Cerveteri , Fiumicino , Rome and Trevignano Romano .

Anguillara station on the FR3 Rome-Viterbo regional line is 3.5 km south of the town center. The municipality is connected to Rome by the provincial road SP5a Via Anguillarese and has access to Via Cassia via the provincial road SP12b Via Trevignanese . At Anguillara there is a small airfield ( Aviosuperficie Santo Stefano ) for general aviation .

Thanks to its location and the beaches on Lake Bracciano and Martignano, the place is a popular destination for tourists and day-trippers, especially from the greater Rome area. Anguillara offers hotels, guesthouses in various price ranges and campsites.

Anguillara Sabazia has 6133 private households . Between 1991 and 2001 the population increased by 41.2% from 10,083 to 14,236.

politics

Antonio Pizzigallo ( MPA ) was elected mayor in June 2009. He replaced Emiliano Minnucci, who led a ( center-left alliance ).

After leaving the PdL , Pizzigallo was deposed on January 1, 2011.

Pizzigallo gained national fame when he tried to improve the city's budget by playing the lottery .

In the new election in May 2011, Francesco Pizzorno (Left Citizen List) was elected, whose list also provides the majority in the municipal council with 11 out of 16 seats.
