Arsoli is a municipality in the metropolitan city of Rome in the Italian region of Lazio with 1454 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019). The place is 47 km east of Rome .
geography
Arsoli is located in the Monti Simbruini above the Aniene on the border with the Abruzzo region . It is a member of the Comunità Montana Valle dell'Aniene .
The neighboring towns are: Cervara di Roma , Marano Equo , Oricola ( AQ ), Riofreddo , Rocca di Botte (AQ), Roviano .

Arsoli is just off the A24 motorway , Strada dei Parchi . However, the next exits Mandela or Carsoli-Oricola are more than 10 km away.
With the Arsoli train station , the place is on the Rome - Avezzano railway line.
history
Archaeological finds show that Arsoli was already inhabited by the Aequers in ancient times . However, it was only mentioned in writing in 997 AD. In the 11th century, the monks of the monastery of Santa Scolastica near Subiaco built a castle here as part of a line of defense against the Saracens . In 1574 the castle and town came into the possession of the Princes Massimo. Fabrizio Massimo expanded the place and the castle, for which he brought the architect Giacomo della Porta to Arsoli. Della Porta also built the SS. Salvatore Church there.

Attractions
- The Castello Massimo, rebuilt by Giacomo della Porta , frescoes a. a. by the brothers Zuccaro and Marco Benefial . The castle is still owned by the Massimo family today . Individual halls can, however, be rented for events, especially weddings.
- The parish church of Santissimo Salvatore is decorated with paintings by Domenichino .
- In the small church of San Rocco you can see frescoes from the 14th and 15th centuries.
