Strawberries from Nemi
Norcineria in Nemi

Today, the place lives from the weekend and recreational tourism of the Romans, but is also popular with international tourists to Rome as part of day trips to the Alban Mountains. The old town with Corso Vittorio Emanuele , Via Giulia and side streets is popular because of its small bars and local specialty restaurants, where meat dishes with mushrooms, game and fish from Lake Nemi are on the menu.

Nemi is primarily known for its wild strawberries , which today - just like the plants and flowers grown in the area that adorn the house entrances and balconies - mostly come from greenhouses on the lakeshore. The Sagra delle Fragole (Strawberry Festival) and a large plant and flower show ( Mostra dei Fiori ) take place on the first Sunday in June . Numerous dessert variations, ice cream, jam and liqueur are also prepared from the wild strawberries.

Other typical products are bread baked in a wood oven; Butcher's delicatessen shops ( Norcineries ) offer ham, dry sausage, dried mushrooms and tomatoes, cheese and honey from the surrounding area.

Crafts and antique shops also have an established tradition in the old town.

The cultural-historical-tourist support organization Pro Loco organizes antique fairs and art exhibitions, open-air theater performances and musical performances in Piazza Roma and a nativity scene exhibition at Christmas time.

Nemi carries the Bandiera Arancione a quality seal in the field of tourism and the environment from the TCI .
