Lariano is a small town in the metropolitan city of Rome in the Italian region of Lazio with 13,503 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019). It is located 41 km southeast of Rome .
geography
Lariano is located on the southeast slope of the Alban Mountains . It belongs to the municipalities of the Castelli Romani . The neighboring towns are Artena , Cori (LT), Rocca di Papa , Rocca Priora , Velletri .
history
The place is first mentioned in 1179 as part of a barter between Pope Alexander III. and Rainone from Tusculum . Alexander received the Larianum fort including the castle and in return gave up the Forma fort . At that time the Larianum fort and castle must have existed for some time and belonged to the Tusculans . A little later Larianum must have come into the possession of the Lanterio family from Milan by force , who at that time exercised the function of balì in Campania . They handed it over to Giordano, abbot of the Fossanova monastery , who gave it to Pope Clement III. returned. 1234 ordered Pope Gregory IX. to sell Larianum. At the end of the 13th century it was owned by Riccardo's nephew from the house of the Annibaldi, lords of Molara. In the 15th century, the area is of Larianum the bone of contention between the local nobility of Annibaldi , Savelli and Colonna , the cardinals and the pope Martin V. presented. Between 1434 and 1462, forts were alternately destroyed and built here. This back and forth ended with the destruction under Pope Pius II († 1464). Since then, the name "Castel Lariano" refers to the remaining ruins (or to the mountain top).

Lariano, along with Velletri and Cisterna di Latina, is one of the communities that are allowed to produce the wine with the controlled designation of origin ( DOC ) Velletri .
The place is famous for its porcini mushrooms . Every September there is the “Porcini Mushroom Festival”, the “Sagra del Fungo Porcino”.
