Sant'Oreste is a municipality in the metropolitan city of Rome in the Italian region of Lazio with 3650 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019). It is located 46 km north of Rome . The place name is supposed to refer to a corruption of the name of the local saint Edistus , Sant'Edisto, a Roman martyr from AD 64, but this is highly uncertain.

Sant'Oreste is located on the south-eastern slope of Monte Soratte in a panoramic position above the valley of the Tiber . A large part of the municipality is part of the Monte Soratte nature reserve .

The districts of Murella, Ponticello, Selva Grande and Valleprato are part of the valley. The neighboring municipalities are Civita Castellana ( VT ), Civitella San Paolo , Faleria (VT), Nazzano , Ponzano Romano , Rignano Flaminio and Stimigliano ( RI ).

Sant'Oreste lies above the Via Flaminia , which connects the place with Rome. The nearest access to the A1 Autostrada del Sole motorway is Ponzano - Soratte , 8 km away.

Sant'Oreste has a train station on the Roma Flaminio – Viterbo railway line .

Sergio Menichelli (Citizen List Sant'Oreste cresce e si rinnova ) was elected mayor in June 2009. He replaced Mario Segon (since 2004), who was no longer running. Valentina Pini (Sant'Oreste in movimento) has been mayor since June 6, 2016 .
