Saracinesco is a municipality in the metropolitan city of Rome in the Italian region of Lazio with 172 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019). It is located 54 km northeast of Rome .

Saracinesco is located in the Monti Ruffi above the valley of the Aniene and is a member of the Comunità Montana Valle dell'Aniene .

The neighboring municipalities are Anticoli Corrado , Cerreto Laziale , Mandela , Rocca Canterano , Sambuci and Vicovaro .

Saracinesco is on the A24 motorway , Strada dei Parchi . The nearest exit is Mandela 7 km away.

With the nearby Mandela train station, it is on the Rome - Avezzano railway line .

history

The place is said to have been founded in the 9th century as a base by the Saracens , which also earned it its name. In 1052 it came into the possession of the Benedictines of Subiaco, to whom the expansion of the castle (today few remains in the center) goes back.

Marco Orsola ( Lista per Saracinesco ) was elected mayor in June 2009. He replaced Giuseppe Dell'Ali (since 2004), who was no longer running. Orsola was re-elected in the May 25, 2014 election.
