history

In ancient times, an estate called Fundus Longianus is said to have been located here on Via Labicana (today Via Casilina SS 6) , the owner of which is unknown. This name developed into the place name Lugnano , which was valid until 1888. At that time, the community adopted the new name Labico , as it was mistakenly thought that the ancient Labicum was the predecessor town. According to modern research, however , Labicum was roughly on the site of today's Monte Compatri .
