Montorio is 51 km northeast of Rome and 33 km north of Tivoli . The center lies on a foothill of the Monti Lucretili north of Tivoli. The municipality extends over an altitude of 135 to 934 m slm It is a member of the Comunità Montana Monti Sabini e Tiburtini .

The community is located in earthquake zone 2 (medium risk).

The neighboring municipalities are Monteflavio , Montelibretti , Moricone , Nerola and Scandriglia ( RI ).
