Monteflavio is an Italian commune in the metropolitan city of Rome in the Lazio region with 1242 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019).

Monteflavio is 50 km northeast of Rome , 47 km south of Rieti and 32 km north of Tivoli .

It belongs to the Monti Lucretili, which with the Monte Pellecchia (1,368 m) have their highest point in the municipality. Monteflavio is a member of the Comunità Montana Monti Sabini e Tiburtini .

The community is located in earthquake zone 2 (medium risk).

The neighboring municipalities are Licenza , Montorio Romano , Moricone , Palombara Sabina , San Polo dei Cavalieri , and Scandriglia ( RI ).

Monteflavio was founded in 1570 by Cardinal Flavio Orsini and got its name from the combination of Monte (= mountain) and his first name.
