Artena is an Italian commune in the metropolitan city of Rome in the Lazio region with 14,033 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019). It is located 47 km southeast of Rome .

Artena was a city of the Volscians in ancient times . More recently the municipality was called Montefortino until 1873 .

Artena is located on the northern slope of the Monti Lepini above the Sacco valley . The place is a member of the Comunità Montana Monti Lepini .
