geography

Allumiere is 73 km northwest of Rome and 15 km northeast of Civitavecchia . It is located in the nature reserve of the Monti della Tolfa . The Tolfa Mountains have been used to mine minerals such as iron ore and alum since the Etruscan era . Hence the name of the place comes from. In Italian, alum is called allume. Today, however, the Tolfa Mountains are one of the loneliest areas in Lazio, so that here, in addition to many other animals, the Tolfa wolves still have a refuge. The municipality extends from 22 to 633 m slm

It consists of the six districts Burò, Ghetto, La Bianca, Nona, Polveriera and Sant'Antonio.

Allumiere is a member of the Comunità Montana Monti della Tolfa .

The community is located in earthquake zone 4 (very little endangered).

The neighboring parishes , clockwise, are Civitavecchia , Tarquinia ( VT ), Tolfa and Santa Marinella .
