Faleria is an Italian commune in the province of Viterbo in the Lazio region with 2089 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019). It is 45 kilometers north of Rome .

geography

Faleria is located in the volcanic hill country of southern Tuscia with its deeply cut valleys, the historical landscape of the Falisker . It lies on a rock spur above the Molatal.

history

Faleria was called Stabia until 1873 and is located on the ancient Via Flaminia . The renaming is reminiscent of the ancient Falisker people, but has nothing to do with the ancient cities of Falerii Veteres (now Civita Castellana ) or Falerii Novi , which were further north.

About 5 kilometers north of today's village of Faleria are the remains of the Paterno Castle , on which Emperor Otto III in January 1002 . passed away.
